According to the History Channel. Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day 2023 will occur on Monday, May 29.
Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings, and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.
Mr. Duct Cleaner thinks it’s a bit macabre, welcoming summer by remembering the fallen. But when you think about it, we would not be able to enjoy the swimming, the picnics, the family gatherings, and hanging out with friends and family without the sacrifice those soldiers made. Thank you to all who currently serve, and we hope you have a long and fruitful life. We know you place yourself in danger to help protect our rights and freedoms.
To those we remember on this day, thank you for your service and your ultimate sacrifice. May we meet you in heaven to shake your hand and give you thanks.
